10th Annual Critiquing Culture Conference

Join us  for the SOC Critiquing Culture conference. 

When: Saturday, October 1st, 2016 

Where: Merten Hall (formerly University Hall), Rooms 1203 and 1204

The 10th annual conference will bring together emerging scholars committed to the analysis and critique of culture.  The conference will also feature a collaboration with graduate students of the American University who will exhibit a body of work based on the theme "Oppression and Structural Violence"

Panel topics include: Online Culture and Gaming; Biopolitics, Resistance, and Community; Articulating Identity in Film; Theorizing the Current Conjecture; Re/en/visioning Cultural Identity; and Neoliberal Policies and Subjectivities.

The conference will conclude with a plenary panel of George Mason University scholars speaking about how they conceptualize neoliberalism and how neoliberalism is engaged in their work. The plenary is entitled "The Uses and Abuses of Neoliberalism" featuring Denise Albanese, Johanna Bockman, and Paul Smith.

The conference is open to the public and light refreshments will be served throughout the event.
