Section Information for Spring 2023
This course will introduce students to the visual arts, exploring how we look at, interpret, describe, and respond to visual imagery. We will discuss why art matters in the modern world, how artists communicate meaning, and how art can be a powerful response to contemporary events. The first half of the course will provide a framework for understanding the materials, techniques, formats, and contexts in which art is produced. The second half of the course will introduce a selection of famous artists and major controversies in the artworld.
