What does English look like around the world? This class will examine the political and aesthetic issues raised by the global spread of English as a world lingua franca. Readings from linguistics, literary theory, as well as fiction, poetry and drama from Africa, India, Ireland, the Caribbean and Asia, as well as vernacular literature from Britain and the U.S.
