Section Information for Fall 2021

This course explores the long genealogy and geography of defiant Black feminist thought that is politically and culturally positioned within complex histories of Black feminism.  Students are encouraged to explore the life, labor, and theorizing of Black women from the antebellum era to the twenty-first century. The course will engage the multiplicity of liberation strategies and aesthetic practices Black women developed and relied upon to live and survive in the United States. Through critical evaluation of historical documents, songs, poetry, documentaries, movies, literary texts, and visual culture the course will provide students with the analytical tools to examine how Black women made and to continue to make lemonade out of lemons.

HIST 389 DL3 is a distance education section that meets synchronously. Students should expect to meet on the day and time scheduled.
