Dr. Leah Perry, SUNY Empire State
Indigenous Dispossession, Anti-Immigration, and the Public Pedagogy of the US Empire
Thursday, October 10, 2024 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM EDT
Online Location
We are happy to have Dr. Leah Perry as the second speaker in this semester’s Cultural Studies Colloquium speaker series on Thursday, October 10, at 4:30pm on Zoom. Her research interests encompass gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, migration, Indigenous studies, and media and popular culture. In her talk, she will discuss her latest book, Indigenous Dispossession, Anti-Immigration, and The Public Pedagogy of U.S. Empire, published by the Ohio State University Press in 2024. Dr. Perry's talk is free and open to all members of the Mason community.
This talk will demonstrate how public pedagogies both justify and do the work of dispossessing Indigenous peoples and containing mi/immigrant populations of color to accumulate and protect white property interests, which in turn recreate colonial, racial, and gendered violences and inequalities that structure US Empire.
