Régine Romain: "Brooklyn To Benin: A Vodou Pilgrimage”
Friday, November 15, 2024 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM EST
Horizon Hall
Our own Cultural Studies PhD student Régine Romain will present and screen her film "Brooklyn To Benin: A Vodou Pilgrimage” on November 15 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. in person and also on Zoom. Régine is a Haitian-American artist, educator and visual anthropologist as well as a current PhD student in our program. The event is hosted by the Communications Department I.D.E.A. Lab.
Régine describes the event as a "deep dive into the history, influence, and reemergence of traditional African religion, especially focusing on the Vodou faith and its cultural impact from the historical roots in Benin to its presence and evolution in modern society. The highlight of the event will be a screening of Régine’s short film, capturing the spirit and experiences of this cultural pilgrimage. It offers a unique perspective on Vodou’s significance in our contemporary world, illustrating how the practice continues to thrive, connect, and transform across generations and geographies."
