Jonathan Beller: Image - Code - Financialization

Colloquium

Thursday, September 26, 2013 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM EDT
Johnson Center, H, Gold Room

From a historical-materialist point of view, the terrain between visuality and programming is becoming increasingly indistinguishable. This talk explores media environments, media-ecologies, and what I call the pathologistics of visualization in the context of postfordism and attention economies. It situates the attention theory of value firmly in the context of the labor theory of value in order to disclose the dissymetrical exchange endemic in the interactivity that goes under the name social media and repeatedly traverses the circuit image-code-image.

Hosted by Cultural Studies Colloquium.
