CSC: "From Trump to #MeToo: Why US Journalism Keeps Getting It Wrong”

Thursday, March 1, 2018 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM EST
Johnson Center, Meeting Room D

Our CSC series will continue another engaging talk "From Trump to #MeToo: Why US Journalism Keeps Getting It Wrong” with Barbie Zelizer.

Prof. Zelizer is the Raymond Williams Professor of Communication, and the Director of the Scholars Program in Culture and Communication at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.

This talk will address the current state of US journalism, focusing on how the errors of reporting Trump’s ascendance to the Presidency are repeating themselves with journalistic coverage of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment. Identifying holes in the models by which journalism are operating in the current environment, the talk suggests that without fundamental change to journalism’s core, its chances of getting coverage right remain in question.
