PhD in Cultural Studies

Esma Husniye Celebioglu, 2025

H. Esma Celebioglu completed her BA at Bogazici University in the Philosophy Department. She has an MA degree in Cultural Studies from Istanbul Sehir University. She wrote her MA thesis on how communication mechanisms can be used as resistance tools. 

What was your specific area of study and how did you choose it? 

Science, Technology and Society Studies (STS). My academic journey at George Mason and the courses I have taken oriented me to choose this path.

My dissertation focuses on digitalization of religion and examines how neoliberal transformation and digitalization reshape religiosity and Muslim identities in contemporary Türkiye.

All faculty are awesome and made a difference during my journey at George Mason 

What are your current career plans following graduation? What are your long-term career goals? 

I will continue my work on STS studies in Türkiye
