Shukadev Amgain is a Ph.D. student in the Cultural Studies department at George Mason University, where he examines digital culture and the political economy of AI, big data, and machine learning. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Tribhuvan University and a Post-Bachelor Diploma in Computer Applications from Purbanchal University, both in Nepal. He later obtained a Master's degree in Digital Culture from the University of Bergen in Norway. Before starting his doctoral studies, Shukadev spent over seven years working at the intersection of data, technology, and public Nepal. Collaborating with the government and international NGOs, he led the design of digital data infrastructures for local and federal governments. As a socio-technical analyst, his insights informed national policies and guided the implementation of inclusive digital interventions. His work empowered civil society actors and local governments, improving their digital competence and using data and technology in advocacy and decision-making. His current research explores digital culture, artificial intelligence and algorithmic power, the gig economy and digital labor, identity and representation in online communities, and digital collectibles and immersive visuality.
